You'll only find treats in this Bag O' Tricks, a Western North Carolina-based Americana trio. Their eclectic blend of traditional and original tunes, based in folk, old-timey, and honky-tonk, will be magic to your ears. Bag O' Tricks unites the three talented voices of Mitch McConnell, Jon Curtis and Laura Thurston.
“Banjo” Mitch McConnell, founding member and leader of the Hilltop Haints, lends his powerful vocals and multi-award-winning claw-hammer banjo style to the mix. Originally from upstate New York, he has called Asheville, NC home for more than a decade. He is especially well-known for pornographic photos of himself with his only true love, his beloved 5-string. https://www.reverbnation.com/banjomitch
Jon, Curtis, aka JC Tokes, formerly of rockabilly sensation The Occasional Caucasians, resides in Bloody Madison County, outside Asheville, NC, where the French Broad and moonshine still flow. He plays guitar, saxophone, and drums in his solo life, but in this incarnation tickles the barrel-house ivories, and adds his gravelly voice to the harmony. Inexplicably, he also favors lewd portraits of himself with his... instrument. https://www.reverbnation.com/jcTokes
Laura Thurston came to WNC from New York via Charleston, SC. She made a name for herself over the last ten years as a solo performer, playing a suitcase kick-drum, tambourine, harmonic, and guitar, and she brings all that plus her sweet vintage-style alto to Bag O' Tricks. She's just raunchy enough to hang out with those other two clowns, and just classy enough to keep them out of jail.
